It’s Thursday morning. What’s the scene at your workplace?
Mornings are my favorite time of day. As a food content creator, my job is in the kitchen, which means I work from home and can move slowly in the mornings. I wake up around 7a, cuddle my dog for 15 minutes, and take her for a walk around the park. Then I make my iced oat milk latte, which is what I look forward to as soon as I open my eyes.
I spend about an hour answering emails, editing content, and posting on social platforms. I always have a movie on in the background because it just makes me happy. This morning it’s Ratatouille. When the weather’s cool, I keep the balcony door open, I hop into the kitchen around 1030a, and film cooking videos until around 2 or 3p.
What’s on the agenda for today?
For the past few weeks, I’ve been seriously focused on promoting my new cookbook, The Naughty Cookbook. Every day, I get into the kitchen and cook one or two recipes from the book. My goal right now is to shed some light on the kind of recipes you can expect from my cookbook that aren’t necessarily unhealthy or indulgent. We have a ton of salads and protein-focused main dishes.
Any bar or restaurant plans today, tonight, this weekend?
My girlfriends and I love to try one new spot a week, so this week we’re checking out SottoVoce, a new wine bar in Midtown. I swear, if an unmarked van pulled up and said, “Get in, there’s a wine bar inside,” I’d get in. I’m also going to Pari Pari for lunch Saturday because sushi is just one thing I can’t go a few days without. Afterwards, we’re going to get Myka Greek Yogurt for dessert. I do want to note that I had Daniel’s for the first time last week and I’ve thought about that experience every day since. Just wow.
How about a little leisure or culture?
One of my favorite things to do with my friends is grab Joe’s Take Away and go have a picnic in South Pointe. We’re doing that this weekend. With such nice weather, it’s a great place to people-watch, open a bottle of wine, and catch up.
Any weekend getaways?
I just got back from the Keys with my best friend for our birthdays — always such a nice getaway and an easy drive from Miami. It’s great to stop at places along the way too, like Alabama Jacks for conch fritters. We stayed at Hawks Cay and let me tell you, its restaurant Salt + Ash, from Miami chef Jeremy Ford, was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time.
What was your last great vacation?
Japan last October. Wow, eating sushi for breakfast, lunch, and dinner was amazing, not to mention the insanely delicious egg salad sandos from 7/11. Everyone in Japan is so nice and makes you feel right at home. The trip was so rich in history, architecture, food, and culture. I stayed at the Kimpton Hotel in Tokyo, Dusit Thani in Kyoto, and The Conrad in Osaka; I highly recommend all of them. Daisuke, Waunn, and Tatsuya were great dining experiences in Tokyo, plus the Tsukiji Fish Market.
What’s a recent big-ticket purchase you love?
I just bought myself the Breville Oracle Jet, and it’s my new best friend. I look forward to making my oat milk lattes every morning now!
Where are you donating your time or money?
Gosh, if I could have a massive ranch and save all of the doggies, I would. But in the meantime, I have co-founded Bone Appetit, a puppy brunch fundraising event that takes place once a year in Miami. We partner with local rescues to raise money to give their dogs the best chance at finding their forever homes.
