It’s Thursday morning. What’s the scene at your workplace?
I’m in the TV news biz, on the air at 5, 6,10 and 11p. My actual workday starts at 3p-ish. The scene at my workplace all depends on what’s happening in the world that day. Sometimes I’ll walk in and things are calm, and then sometimes things just change on a dime, and we’ve got to adjust — quickly.
What’s on the agenda for today?
Today I worked out with my trainer, Luly Rivero. It’s always the same. The alarm goes off at 9a (remember I work late) and I start the snooze game. Before I know it, an hour goes by, and now I have to race out the door to make it on time. She’ll kick my butt for an hour and when I get home I’m testing a recipe I saw on Instagram for my Bite with Belkys segment. I try to test the things I see because sometimes they look good online but they don’t deliver.
Any restaurant plans today, tonight, this weekend?
We live dangerously close to the Four Seasons in Surfside. Sometimes we’ll walk over and have drinks and snacks at the Champagne Bar. There’s usually a DJ putting out the best vibes, and the people watching is pretty fab. In my humble opinion, the space is one of the most beautiful in town. The best part is: we can just walk home.
How about a little leisure or culture?
I love taking our out-of-town visitors for an airboat ride in the Everglades. It’s an experience so unique to South Florida. Everyone always thinks it’s the coolest.
Any weekend getaways?
My husband and I have a little cabin just outside Asheville, NC. Quick 90-minute flight, and you leave all the stresses and hustle and bustle of the 305 behind. We love spending time there. It’s such a slow pace, and a great way to decompress. The Asheville food and cocktail scene is on fire. Some of my favorites are 12 Bones Smokehouse, Marked Tree Vineyard, The Purple Onion, and The Bull & Beggar. I’m also looking forward to checking out the new spot from Miami’s Coyo Taco team that’s opening next week: Xico Asheville.
What was your last great vacation?
Last year some friends invited us to stay with them at their villa in Tuscany. It was such a beautiful place to wake up every day. There were 10 of us in the house, and we’d prepare meals together. It was such a bonding experience. Those little Tuscan villages are so charming and fun to explore. Everywhere we went felt like we were walking through a movie set.
Where are you donating your time or money?
Recently I did a story at Ronald McDonald House and was so moved by the families staying there. They can stay as long as they need to, free of charge, while their child gets medical treatment but meals are not included. Through the Ronald McDonald House Meals from the Heart program, you can sponsor a meal for these families and really see firsthand the positive impact you’re making.
The Boys and Girls Club is another place that makes such a difference in young lives. They give kids and teens a safe haven where they can grow and thrive. Sports, mentoring, tutoring, their programs really give kids all the tools they need to dream big and achieve success.
